We’re not just saying Noosa is one of the nicest places in Australia because we live here, or because we run a Noosa Backpackers Resort.
For backpackers, Noosa is often at the top of their “must see” list, and who are we to argue with that? All over the world, wherever backpackers meet, the word has spread that our town is not to be missed if you happen to be passing through Queensland. However just in case you haven’t heard about Noosa on the backpacker grapevine, we’ve made a list of a few of the things you might want to do when you get here.
- Go surfing. Noosa is surrounded by bays and beaches. If you’re an experienced surfer, head to North Shore for some of the best breaks. If you’d like to learn to surf, there are several local surfing schools where beginner surfers can hire equipment and get some personal coaching.
- Get some gentle retail therapy. Eumundi Market, held every Saturday and Wednesday, has hundreds of stalls selling craft, artworks and local produce. This is a great place to find an interesting gift, or stroll around while being entertained by the talented musicians and street artists performing here.
- Do a little eco tourism. Tewantin Forest Reserve protects several endangered tree species and is home to some of Australia’s favourite native fauna and flora. The reserve is only a few minutes’ drive from Noosa; check out the stunning unspoilt scenery on the way. Another local spot with beautiful coastal scenery and a diversity of native plant and animal species is Noosa National Park.
- Get on yer bike! Combine a little exploration of the region and a taste of adventure with a motorbike tour of the Noosa hinterland.
- Feed a dolphin. After an early morning start (sorry!), spend the day on a Dolphin Safari, with a chance to interact with a wild Indo Pacific dolphin.
- Feast your eyes. To sample the work of some of Australia’s best young sculptors, printmakers and sculptors, browse around Young Masters Gallery.
- Visit the Triathlon. Every year in October/November the Noosa Triathlon Multi-Sport Festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors who watch and participate in sports like beach volleyball, golf, running and ocean swimming. This 5 day annual sports fest and celebration of health and fitness is one of Australia’s iconic events.
- Wine and dine, or have an ice cream. Noosa’s Eat Street is Hastings Street, running parallel to Noosa’s main beach. Choose from cafes, fine restaurants, ice-cream stores and bars.
- Grab some nightlife. One of the most popular local clubs is the hip Rolling Rock, also in Hastings Street. If you’re looking for a friendly backpacker party atmosphere, drop in at the Koala Bar at Noosa Heads.
Then, after a hard day’s leisure, rest your weary head. Stay at our Backpackers Resort for great value Noosa accommodation. You’ve probably already heard about our place, on the grapevine.
